A message from Leah

My path to becoming a speech-language pathologist was not conventional, yet each step contributed meaningfully to my current practice.  With a BFA in printmaking, I began my career as a textile designer in New York City’s Garment District.  In the meantime, singing and performing had been a passion early in life, but it became a more serious pursuit following an unexpected illness in my twenties.  With everything else uncertain, I focused on studying music, voice, and languages.  I entered and won competitions, eventually signed with an agent and performed opera and concertized throughout the USA.

I learned through a friend that the field of speech-language pathology, at the time, had few specialists in voice.  A discipline that synthesized my creative background and technical curiosity, I earned my MS CCC SLP and began working in hospitals and supervising graduate students in speech clinics.  Today, I run a private practice where I work with children, adults, and seniors on everything from voice and breathing to articulation and language.  I bring my past experience – as an artist, a performer, and a listener – to each session.  The Human Voice is what inspires me – its power of human connection as well as its vulnerability.
